Certification needn't be daunting but we know it can feel that way! Certification for off-road vehicles applies when you modify anything on the vehicle beyond the capacity your normal WOF person has to ensure the vehicle is still legally road compliant.
Where do you start?
To kick off your certification journey, we recommend starting with a chat with one of our certification specialists. They'll review your vehicle, discuss your current modifications, future plans, and desired timeline for certification. With years of experience and a deep understanding of LVVTA requirements, our team is well-equipped to guide you through the process.
We encourage our customers to complete all desired modifications before certification, as the entire vehicle undergoes assessment similar to a Warrant of Fitness. Our certification package includes up to two rechecks, acknowledging that first-pass certifications are rare. Any necessary post-assessment work can be arranged either at our workshop or elsewhere, depending on your preference.
Throughout the certification process, your vehicle typically remains with you unless additional work is scheduled at our workshop between checks.
Lifting your vehicle - does this need certification?If you are only doing a suspension lift and go no higher than 2 inches (50mm), then no. This type of lift is still considered road legal via the normal WOF process and does not require any additional certifying.
Body lifting your vehicle with no suspension lift - does this need certification?
Yes. No matter how much you have body lifted your vehicle - these always require certification.
Body lift + suspension lift (of any height) - does this need certification?
Yes. The combination of a body lift and any suspension lift requires certification.
Suspension lifts greater than 2 inches (50mm) - does that need certification?
Yes. Any suspension lift over 2 inches changes the geometry of the vehicle beyond manufacturer parameters and must be certified.
Larger wheels and/or tyres - does this need certification?
You can increase tyre/wheel size up to 5% larger than your vehicle manufacturer factory specification.
If you are wanting to increase by more than 5%, then yes - certification will be required. (Other modifications may also be required to get the increased size to fit correctly - please discuss your requirements with our team)
Aftermarket upper control arms - do these need certification?
Yes. No matter what size lift you are installing. Aftermarket arms always need certification as again, they are changing the geometry of the vehicle.
Air Assisted Suspension (air bags) - do these need certification?
Yes - always.
